In Medieval times, a feast was a symbol of the host’s wealth and hospitality. The finest wines and ales, the best meats, breads, cheese, and confections were laid upon the tables or brought by on heaping platters for guests to choose.
Herbalists were both culinary and medicinal based. Herbs enhanced the flavor of foods, but also work to heal from a multitude of maladies. And the herbs we use today, based on recipes handed down through time, were sometimes chosen because they could bring about better health.
Brewers and vintners were also very important. Water during the Middle Ages was not always safe to drink. To remedy this, ales and wines were consumed. Having undergone the process of distillation and fermentation, the drink was no longer a danger from diseases the water may carry.
At our feasts, you will enjoy the tastes of foods prepared from ancient recipes, plus a little “down home” cooking too.
