Shields may be any shape and size so long as there are no pointed edges which could potentially enter an opponent grill or have sharp edges exposed.
No bolts, wires, or other objects may project more than 3/8 inch (9 mm) from any part of a shield without being padded. Shield bosses are not considered to be projections.
Break away shields may not be utilized except when defined by specific tournament rules which will include construction and usage rules.
Punch shields will be considered a blow if struck with the “blade”.
