Selecting the Crown
- The Crown is in peril twice per year at the Tournament of Fire (Crown War) and the Tournament of Ice (Winter War).
- The Crown is won by right of arms annually during the Tournament of Fire (Crown War).
- While referred to as “tournament”, contenders shall gather unto themselves armies and declare for the Crown.
- War points are earned within all three areas – marshalate, arts, and service as outlined in the Solara Treatise of War.
- All Crown War combat will be rattan only whether tournament or war.
- Crown War Dates and Rules:
- Crown War: Tournament of Fire – Spring/Summer of each year.
- Tournament of Ice – Fall/Winter of each year.
- All rules of engagement are based on the Solara Treatise of War unless otherwise posted by the Crown prior to War.
- Tournament of Ice (Winter War)
- Any qualified contender may challenge for the Crown during the Tournament of Ice (Winter War).
- The Crown must defend their throne except if they have a desire to abdicate.
Declarations of Intent to War / Contenders
Contenders
- All Contenders for the Crown must:
- Be a current paid member in good standing of Solara for a minimum of one (1) year AND
- A current or former Solara Lord or Co-Lord who, prior to declaring have been a Lord or a Co-Lord of their Steading for a minimum not less than one (1) year.
- Must be a Knight, Master and/or Maister of Solara for a minimum of one (1) year.
- Special dispensation may be given by the Council of Light for any member who has worked as an Officer for a minimum of one (1) year and has shown their ability to lead others.
- Co-Crown: The Crown Contender may elect but is not required to have a Co-Crown (co-ruler).
- Requirements for Co-Crown.
- A Co-Crown must meet all the requirements of the Crown Contender.
- A Co-Crown is considered a co-contender and must be declared at the time of declaration as they hold the same rights and privileges as their counterpart.
- A Co-Crown does not gain extra voting privileges.
- A Consort is not a Co-Crown.
- Requirements for Co-Crown.
- All Contenders and Co-Contenders must make their declaration no later than thirty (30) days before Crown War.
- The current Crown may only defend their throne if challenged during the Tournament of Ice (Winter War).
- The current Crown must make their intention known with haste following any challenge if they choose to defend their seat at the Tournament of Ice (Winter War).
- If there is no challenge, the Crown retains their throne.
- All contenders and consorts thereof must maintain their membership through the entirety of their reign.
- Any royal whose membership lapses for greater than 14 days will be removed from their station.
- No member should declare for the above position as a contender or prospective consort if they have any reason to believe that they will not be able to fulfill their duties. While Pilgrimages are allowed under certain circumstances (illness or other life situations that may occur), it is expected that all contenders are stating their intention to fulfill the entirety of their duties as part of their declaration.
Contender Tournament
- Two or More Contenders:
- A Contenders tournament shall be held as outlined in the Solara Treatise of War until there are only two Contenders remaining.
- Contenders who are non-combatants may utilize a champion for the Tournament.
- Each Champion is limited to one representation per year.
- Following the tournament, Lords not allied with either winning contender must declare for one or the other contender 30 minutes prior to the start of battle. Lords reserve the right to abstain and not join either side.
- A Contenders tournament shall be held as outlined in the Solara Treatise of War until there are only two Contenders remaining.
- Single Contender
- Tournament of Fire, a single contender will be the Heir Apparent. War will still be held for the enjoyment of the people.
- Tournament of Ice, if the Crown determines to abdicate their throne, the single contender will be the Heir Apparent. War will still be held for the enjoyment of the people.
Quarter Mastery
- The Quarter Mastery is the supporters for the gathered armies.
- Artisans
- Artisans of the Quarter Mastery may pledge their works to the contender whom they support.
- Additionally, artisans may be recruited, bribed, or purchased to enter their great works into the competitions of Arts and Sciences for War Points as outlined in the Book of War.
- The winner of any A&S competition held (whether general or categorized) will receive 1 war point to pledge to their chosen Contender.
- Service Corps
- Service Corps of the Quarter Mastery may be recruited, bribed, or purchased to showcase their great works through service.
- The side with the greatest number of service corps members will receive 1 war point to pledge to their chosen Contender.
- War points for the Quarter Mastery are outlined in the Solara Treatise of War.
Contender Requirements Day of War
- All Contenders for War must:
- Be in armor and upon the field on the day of the battle.
- Non-combatants are not required to fight but must meet minimum armor standards and lead their armies to the field.
- Carry and display their personal battle standard at the field.
- Standard Bearers may not fight and are only soft kill. They are required to be in full armor at all times whether on the field or sideline.
- The victor of The Tournament of Fire (Crown War) or Tournament of Ice (Winter War) will be crowned the same day and begin their reign.
Contestation of a Contender
- An individual who would seek to challenge the Crown must be free of contestation concerns.
- Contestation may occur when:
- One or more Sun Lords bring to light legitimate concerns of a challenger.
- Concerns may not be arbitrary or stem from personal dislikes, bias, or personal grievance. We have other rules to handle the latter.
- Legitimate concerns cannot be based on hearsay or conjecture. However, there are circumstances when a third party will bring their concern to the Lord of their Fief and the Lord will bring that concern to the Council of Light.
- Legitimate concerns may include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Felony and certain misdemeanor convictions which would preclude many normal civil liberties or be of a nature that would bring concern to the average individual for safety and security.
- Other legitimate concerns may also include a person who causes conflicts and disruptions to the game.
- One or more Sun Lords bring to light legitimate concerns of a challenger.
Solara Citizen War Combatants (SCWC):
- An SCWC:
- Must be a citizen in good standing of Solara for no less than thirty (30 days) prior to Crown War.
- Must sign the waiver in order to compete.
- All fighters must meet Kingdom armor requirements and have knowledge of the Rules of War.
- Fighters of both armies will be appropriately marked with color upon their helms for recognition of their side.
- Citizens of Solara may choose for which Contender they fight regardless of the Steading affiliation.
- People may not be admonished nor given cause to be aggrieved based upon their chosen contender.
- We highly encourage all members to participate in the Crown War on and off the field of battle as there are various ways to win War Points.
