Abdication is the formal act of relinquishing the Crown’s authority and duty and is a voluntary act. This may occur for various reasons.
In the event that the Crown is unable to fulfill their entirety of their reign, the Council of Light will be called to address the vacant seat.
The Council of Light may appoint any former Crown, Duke/Duchess, or Prince/Princess to fill the seat as regent until such time as a Crown War can be held, or the Council of Light may choose to govern as a regency until the next War contest is held.
There are times in a King/Queen’s life when they must concern themselves with their personal homestead and/or spiritual matters.
During this time, if a King/Queen must step away from their duties for a period not to exceed three (3) months:
A Co-Lord will automatically assume all responsibilities.
They may name a Regent to serve in their stead, as approved by the Council of Light.
The selected regent would have the voting privileges, as carried by the King/Queen on pilgrimage, but are not de facto ruler.
They may choose the Council of Light to govern as a regency until their return or the next War contest is held.
If the King/Queen returns within or at three (3) months, they will resume their position.
If the King/Queen cannot return in this time period, the Council of Light will determine the best course of action based on the rules under Abdication.
There may come a time when a tyrant wins the Crown of Solara.
Lord’s Challenge
Any current or former Lord may challenge the sitting Crown upon declaration of their intent to topple the Crown for just cause as such a matter will result in War.
Such Lord must make a declaration to the Council of Light.
All other Lords and former Lords are eligible to also challenge.
The manner in how a final contender is determined shall follow the same procedure as a scheduled Crown War.
Knight’s Challenge
The Knights (Hellbenders), having given their oath to the people, and the Crown only as it represents the people, may rise to remove the tyrant Crown. The Knights may call for a vote of Loss of Faith or challenge the Crown.
If called for by the Knights, the Crown may not call upon the knights to fight for them as they brought forth the grievance.
Individual knights retain the right to side with or against the sitting Crown.
Knights will not be demoted for their defense of the people.
The Crown
The Crown may call banners to their aid to defend their throne, and a war / battle will be scheduled.
Lords may choose for which side they fight either in support of the Crown or against the Crown.
Lords may not be chastised for siding for or against the sitting Crown.
Outcome
If the Crown wins, they may remain upon the throne and may not be challenged again for a period of six (6) months (including Winter War), except in the case where Crown War is within that six (6) month time frame.
If the Challenger wins, they shall become King until the next scheduled Crown / Winter War.
If the Challenger wins but does not wish to be crowned as King / Queen, the Council of Light will determine the best course of action based on the rules under Abdication.
Sempronius Rutilus is an action the Council of Light may take in the event that a sitting King/Queen is found to be unfit to complete their tenure.
No one person is above another person within the Kingdom. Leadership positions are service positions.
There are rules in place to deal with most problems that arise through challenges and voting of the citizenry.
Sempronius Rutilus is reserved for an individual who may need to retire based on the determination of the Council of Light whereby their actions and/or other legitimate considerations that would have precluded them from being a contender to the position arise and/or they are no longer in receipt of the confidence of the Council of Light and/or the Fire Borne.
To invoke Sempronius Rutilus against any sitting Crown, the Council of Light must carry a vote of 2/3ds majority.
Any individual who is ousted under Sempronius Rutilus may not vie for the Crown for a period of time determined by the Council of Light up to an eternal ruling.
The Council of Light will determine the best course of action based on the rules under Abdication.
