Vanished: The Lost Colony of Roanoke

In 1587, settlers sailed from England to America to attempt a second colony in North Carolina. Facing many challenges, they worked together to forge a life for themselves and their families as they waited for supply ships to return. In an unforeseen turn of events, the ships never returned in time. It was not until 1590 that the English ships made their way back to the shores of Roanoke Island. Upon their return, there was no trace of the colonists. The only clue was a word carved into a tree “Croatoan” which was the name of an island fifty miles from Roanoke. John White’s writings stated that it did not appear that the colonist had left under duress or had been attacked, although within the fort, houses had been partially dismantled and the fort had been looted. The mystery of what happened to the colonists of Roanoke Island has been speculated upon for many years with little evidence of what truly happened.
In Vanished, Kelly weaves a fascinating tale of what could have happened. In recent years, tales of monstrous creatures have been reported from Roanoke Island and surrounding areas that gives credence to her story. Those tales, coupled with strange cryptic and personal family legends helped to bring the story to life. Those family legends include such things as her forbears who traveled with Daniel Boone as he blazed the trails into West Virginia and Kentucky and her fourth great grandfather who was allegedly with Boone when he is said to have shot a Yahoo (Bigfoot) in the West Virginia mountains.
From thrilling and terrifying encounters to warm-hearted characters with whom you will fall in love, the riveting adventure of Roanoke Island in the Vanished will captivate you in this thrilling, non-stop reading adventure.
